This is a project close to my heart. Over the last year or so I have been meeting people with Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease and making portraits of them.
I too have Parkinsons and I have been living with this progressive condition since my diagnosis in 2021. I’m getting to grips with this collection of neurological and motor debilitating symptoms while actively being a photographer. Photography is important to me – it is my identity, my life blood and my creative outlet.
I was looking at ways to offer my skills as a photographer within the Parkinson’s community. I approached the Charity Spotlight YOPD. A Charity that supports people with Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease. All are diagnosed before they are 50. Many have young families are still working and are in their prime of life. Others have been living with this chronic condition for many years.
I’m grateful to everyone who consented to having their portrait taken. Sharing their tips on positivity along with managing a variety of conditions from extreme dyskinesia and dystonia to tremors and of course what meds you are on and how your Parkinson’s journey has made you a more resilient person.
Thank you Ellie Finch Hulme, Bryn Jones, Samantha Cole, Sophie Wardle, Gina Walters, Barrie Smith, Ros Fernandez, Paul Morris, Sarah Sykes, Sandra Davies, Wendy Noble, Emma Moscrop, Snehal Amembal, Ian Mollett, Rose Donaldson, Bec Jones and Sue Humbage, for your time and empathy.
